Alabama Football!

The Alabama "Crimson Tide" won the 2009 BCA National Championship by beating Texas in the Rose Bowl on January 7, 2010....37-21. What better way to celebrate than with a pre-game party at work! Ren marked the fieldgoal for the win and we had a great time munching on hot dogs with all of the fixings!

OMG! I have neglected my blog long enough and I decided that I needed to pop in over here and create at least one more post before the end of the year! I am afraid that 2010 will find me not doing much of anything. It seems that I spend most of my time these day either on facebook or with my nose stuck in a book!

During the last few months, I have become an avid fan and reader of "Christine Feehan" and "Amanda Ashley". On the days that I am off of work, I find myself, all too often, curled up in a nice comfy corner with a book in my hand. When I get interested in one of these books, I loose all track of time and space and before I know it, it is 2 AM!!

I did make the time, this morning, to do two layouts! One of my grandchildren on Christmas morning and the other of my cat, Spider! Enjoy!

One of the most exciting experiences in the world is to be at a very "High Energy" concert of one of your most cherished music artists AND have the best "spot" in the house!

First, it all begins back in 2003 when my husband and I had the opportunity to see Kenny Chesney live at the Palace Casino. We had seats at a table right at the stage. At the time, I wasn't that familiar with Kenny except that I knew that he sang the title cut to Jerry Mcquire and that I loved his newest song, at the time, "She thinks my tractors sexy". It was the most awesome experience, then, to sit at the end of that table and watch him sing. I hung on his every word and movement. I have always been a big fan of Country Music (I adore George Straight) but this was the night that I fell in love with Country Music...I fell in love with Kenny Chesney.

I have followed him ever since, purchased every album that he has released and I am even a member of his Official Fan Club. Hell, I even cried when I learned that he had married Rene! When I learned that he would be coming to Biloxi, Ms. (only 50 miles from where I live) I knew that this would be one concert I would not miss. My husband and I have never been true concert goers. We have been married 31 years and had never been to an official concert together...until now. Being a member of his fan club, I was able to purchase tickets on line during the pre-sale...4 days before they went on sale to the public. So, I decided that I would go for the full gusto since it would be an experience of a lifetime for me. I purchased the Floor Tickets and made up my mind that I didn't mind standing at stage level for a few hours. I could do this, I mean, it is Kenny Chesney for heavens sakes! (My husband wasn't really thrilled at the aspect, but then, he is not in love with the guy!) I couldn't have made a better choice!

I have been to a few concerts in my time (just not with my husband) and I thought that no concert could ever beat the E.L.O. concert that I went to with a jerk from work back in the 70's. HEH....Boy, was I WRONG!!! This was, by far, the BEST concert that I have EVER been to and if I am ever given the chance to do it again...I am already there!

Anyway, hubby and I were standing right at the end of the runway and there were about 2 lines of people in front of us...so I wouldn't have been able to "reach out and touch" him but I was close. Heart stopping, blood pounding CLOSE!!! I think that if I were a fainting person, I would have a few times! There was, BTW, one young lady that did faint and had to be carried from the floor. Poor kid..I felt so sorry for her. Anyway... here are some of the photos that I took from my "SPOT" on the floor. I hope you enjoy them and fear not....they will be on a scrapbook page in the near future. Well, as soon as I can either purchase or make the perfect kit to use them with! ENJOY!!

Hurricane season

So...here we go again. I have lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for most of my life, 39 years, to be exact. I watch the weather channel much more when depressions and tropical systems come across the Atlantic. I mean, you have to stay informed about the weather no matter where you live, but here...where I am...this time of the year is the worst.

Allot of people will say, "I wouldn't live in the path of hurricanes", "why don't you move". Let's consider the alternatives...

Tornados - earthquakes - floods - Fires - snow and ice ...

tornadoes - no advance warning. They just find you!
earthquakes - no way, Jose'
floods - been there before,
fires - I don't relish the thought of everything I own being charred to cinders.
snow and ice - I can't stand the cold and I cannot drive in the stuff!

hurricanes - At least I can sit here and watch them come across the Atlantic and have a reasonable idea of where they are going and how strong the winds will be. Given that - I can decide for myself if I want to pack my most valuable possessions and hit the highway to a safer place or just sit here at home and hold down the walls!

So I live here...in one of the most beautiful places in the USA and when Hurricane season comes around, I get my Jim Cantori and Jeff Morrow fix!

So I am sitting here this morning watching the weather channel to see where TD 4 is planning to go. It formed in the Gulf, just off the West coast of Florida overnight. I also have my eyes on the other two that are making their way across the ocean.

Anyway, we will see what happens this year with the named storms and hopefully...all will be well.

I have to admit that I was not really interested in reading any of these books. I am not a "Vampire" person and most books of that nature tend to be too "Bloody" for me...so...I actually surprised myself when I decided to purchase them. If I had purchased only the first one, I wouldn't have been so surprised but I couldn't stop at just one...I purchased the whole darn set!!

That was two months ago and they have been sitting on my desk, in the box, for the past two months...untouched!

I had some time on my hands last week with the kids being gone to their mothers and I decided, on a whim, to pick up the first book of the collection..TWILIGHT...and I started reading...and I read...and I read...and I read... I could not put the book down! When I finished the book at 1 AM in the morning.....what do YOU think I did? HEH...I picked up the second book.."NEW MOON" and kept right on reading. I think that I may have finally put down the book and gave up to sleep at around 4 AM.

I have NEVER been so consumed by anything in my life! I think and dream TWILIGHT 24/7 now. I thought that maybe...just maybe...if I saw the movie that would stop my insanity. So I purchased the DVD and sat down Wednesday night with my husband and watched the movie for the first time. Well..... Three days and 5 viewings later...the insanity is still here and I am more obsessed than ever! Will this craziness ever end? Is there life after "Twilight", "New Moon", "Eclipse" and "Breaking Dawn"? Will I ever get Edward Cullen and those GORGEOUS amber eyes out of my dreams? I mean...really....I am a GRAND MOTHER for God's sake!!!

Now, I can only say that I picked up "Breaking Dawn" today and started reading and I had to MAKE myself put it down to get anything done. The worst part is that my family has noticed the obsession! Well...I am waiting....very impatiently....for the next movie...

Well, I just wanted to pop in here to tell you all that I am officially not Designing any more. It was a very hard decision for me to make, however, there are just too many things going on in my life right now that are just...well...far more important! I may, from time to time, create a few things to post here on my blog, but you will also find me contributing a few things to "Saturday Night Live" over at DSP. If you are not familiar with the SNL gals you can find them here.

Other than that, you will be able to find me at Scraphead, where my store will be open for a little while longer or Scraporchard and DSP, where I will be joining in all of the fun challenges with some of my awesome friends and trying to get some much needed scrapping done!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You....ALL of you for all of your love and support during the past three years and who knows.....maybe when things wind down around here and get back to some normalsy, I'll break out of my creative slump and get something going again!

BTW...The blog isn't going anywhere, so keep checking back with me!

Ok... So I have made the decision to get out of the designing thing...at least for the summer. There are just too many things going on around here with the grandkids and I need some time to get some summer scrapping done!

I joined in the competition at Scrap Orchard and I am SO enjoying scrapping with these beautiful kits! I made it past round one and will be working on the round 2 layout this week!

Not been a good week....

Well, other than the freezer saga...which is finally over without any problems from "name brand" store... other things have been going on in the family this week.

My mother's only living brother was in a very bad accident about 5 weeks ago and Monday night I received a phone call from Mom. My dear Uncle lost his battle and is now sitting with Jesus, right where, being of the Christian Faith, I have always known that he would be.

I just returned home from the funeral home and it was not an easy task. Knowing that he leaves a legacy of wonderful thoughts and memories with me as I know he has for the rest of the family as well, make it easier, but it is still hard.

My mother has taken it all well but she has had a hard time dealing with the reality that she and two sisters are the only remaining siblings of 13 children. Right now, I am sad but this too shall pass.

A lesson learned....

If the good Lord spares my life until July, I will be 50 years old. In half a century, I have learned many things, one of them today! If you are going to purchase a major appliance, please purchase it from someone that will provide SERVICE when YOU need it!

Continuing the saga of my freezer..... Major Brand named store does not provide same day service. So...the earliest they could come to check the freezer I purchased from them NEW ... YESTERDAY...is WEDNESDAY. UM.....WRONG ANSWER!

Being in the customer service field at my job and with designing here at home, I KNOW how important PR and CS related issues are and this place STINKS at it!

OK....so dear husband and I discuss the situation and away he goes to the local, home owned and operated appliance store to see what he can find. AH HA.....almost the same exact freezer but made by a different company for about the same price...and this store has 24 hour service for situations just like mine! They delivered my NEW, new freezer before 10:30 AM, set it up and made sure that it was working properly, helped me transfer everything from the other one into the NEW, new one and even helped get the other one out of the house and onto my husbands pickup truck! Now THAT is service!

So...what do you think my dear husband is doing right now? YEP! Taking the freezer that was new yesterday back to the unmentioned name brand store to get our money back!

What else can I say......except.....my dear husband can be as mean as a bumble bee having a bad day in a field of fresh flowers.....and he is already just a little upset.

I wish them luck with that!

Some days....nothing goes right!

Sunday morning greated me with the sound of my husband going bonkers because our chest freezer stopped working. We don't know what the problem is... it just quit working. Well, I spent the better part of the day moving all of the food from the old freezer to ice chests and then moving them back to a new freezer that we had to purchase. In between all of that...rearranging the utility room, sweeping and mopping the floor where the old freezer had been etc... you can most likely imagine.

Monday is a brand new day....at least, I thought it would be but it appears that it may be a repeat of Sunday! I woke up at 5 AM to greet a new day and what I got was my husband standing in the kitchen saying that the NEW freezer is not working! ARGGGG.... What the hill of beans is going on now!

So, here we go with round two of the freezer saga! Dear Husband has been on the phone with "the place of purchase" (enter a brand name here) already but it's only 6 AM so we have to wait until the store opens to find out what they are going to do. In the meantime....Dear Husband is looking up phone numbers to see if he can find someone that can FIX the old freezer.

In the words of a song by "Sugarland"..... Life don't go quite like you planned it. SH.......IT happens!

Remembering Michelle...

The 1 year anniversary of the death of my niece is coming up and with that, I have been flooded with memories of her. Things that she said, the way she talked, walked and lived her life to the fullest. Memories of Christmas' past and other family holidays together. But I think the one thing that I miss the most about Michelle is her laugh. She had the most incredible laugh and just to hear it would bring you out of whatever bad mood you might be in and make you smile in spite of yourself.

So, I have been working on a new kit and decided to work on a layout with it. I have bucket loads of photos that I could use with this kit but the one single photo that came to my finger tips made me smile. I can almost hear her laughter.

Danny, my dearest and only brother, know that I love you in a way that only a sister can love her brother and that this love is unconditional. I feel your pain and wish that there were some way that I could take it away but I am helpless where this is concerned. So I look to Jesus to ease your pain and pray that you will continue to gain strength through him that died for you.
Don't worry about Michelle. She is happy in her walk with him.

Dog Days!!

Ok...so I have been working on some things and I walked out into the back yard for a few moments to get a handle on everything that I have going through my head. Buster met me halfway across the patio with his usual happy, lappie welcome and almost knocked me over in his excitement to have someone join him in his realm. Dogs are such wonderful therapy for whatever ails you, so I played with him for a few moments to pass the time.

Now, Buster is not a small dog! He is a beautiful Chocolate Lab and I really can't believe that I wasn't thrilled about having him take up home here. Buster actually belongs to my son, Greg, and he came to live with hubby and me three years ago when Greg couldn't keep him at his apartment building. Now... I can't imagine life at this house without him!

Anyway, as I watched him trot (and I do mean trot) around the yard, I was reminded of a layout I had created of Buster several months ago and that reminded me of a kit that I had created in order to do the layout! Well, I came back inside and sat down at the PC and decided to put some of that kit together as a freebie for all of you. This kit was sold in the store at 3Scrapateers so it is possible that some of you may have it. But for those of you that don't it will be a nice treat!

Happy New Year!!!! I am so looking forward to 2009 and all of the new possibilities that it offers! I am designing a little bit more, I am into making cards allot more and I am making new and wonderful friends everyday! ...Should old acquaintence be forgot.... out the window! We never want to forget those people that have helped us to evolve into who and what we are, those wonderful souls that give us encouragement and that extra little push when we need it the most...even when we really don't think that we do! So, here is a toast to all of those wonderful people in my life, here at home and in the digital world! My dearest Husband, my son, both of my Grandchildren, my sweet, sweet mother, my brother and SIL (God bless them and help them continue to heal from their loss), my best friend and co-worker-Beverly, Brenda Cook(who I could have never made it without in the world of digital and whom I dearly love), Lianne Carper and Kimberly Stewart and Terrell S (all of whom have been my inspiration, not to mention that they all have huge shoulders and hearts and share in the task of keeping me SANE), Chris, Tammy, Bonnie, Darlene and Audrey (all of whom have become my rocks of gibralter and closest and dearest friends), Tina Chambers and Lauren Bavin ( if it weren't for these to wonderful ladies, I may have never started digital scrapbooking at all! Christmas Fun!

Just wanted to share a few photos of Christmas in South Mississippi! I was even able to sneak in a photo of my Nephew! We don't see him very often since the loss of my niece in June, so being able to see him and get at least one photo was a real treat!

Oh my goodness! can you believe that we are at the end of another year already? 2008 has not been the best year for my family! But, when I look back, it wasn't been the worst year either. There have been allot of wonderful things that have happened this past year...even in spite of the tragedies.

But it's not the end! It's the beginning of a whole new year! I hope that everyone has a wonderful beginning to this new year and that the wonderful continues on throughout!

Well, I didn't make it through the Designer Finder Contest. I made it to round 5 and I am VERY proud of that but I was not one of the chosen few that made it into the apprenticeship program or as a full designer. I applaud those that did make it! Their designs were exceptional...but then so were everyone's. Who knows what is in the eyes of the beholder and everyone does have a different opinion of what they like and what they think will work...or even what they think is up to DSP standards!

Anyway, here is another layout that I made with my round 5 page kit! I haven't had ANY problems making layouts with any of the kits I designed! OH...and just in case anyone is wondering...I did not use any other designers designs or CU products. Everything is my own (even down to what I actually made with my new Wacom tablet) and I am VERY proud of that too!

I LOVE this time of the year and I hope that everyone is enjoying the season with family and friends. I am still running around trying to get the finishing touches on all of my Christmas shopping and I still haven't gotten all of my cards sent out yet! Kent told me last night that if I didn't have them all sent out by Saturday, there really wouldn't be any point in sending them at all! 'Sigh' I guess he is right.

Well, at any rate, I have been trying to get some layouts completed with some of the Awesome kits that I purchased over at DSP! Why purchase someone else's kits when I can make my own? Because sometimes you just see something that someone else created that you just gotta have...like this awesome kit called "Jingle all the Way" by Erica Belton. This is my Grand-Daughter the first time she ever went to visit Santa, several years ago. She really was cautious about getting in his lap and to get the photo, Santa gave her a big tickle! Photo turned out perfect and now she isn't afraid! Now, I just have to figure out how to get Taylor to sit in his lap for a photo!

A Special Memory

Here is one that I created with the page kit that I made for round 5 of the DSP Designer Finder contest. This has always been one of my favorite photos of my Niece and Nephew. It is even more special to me now since we lost my niece in June of this year.

WOW! I am totally astonished that I made it round 5 of the contest at DSP! There is some really awesome talent in the gallery! I know that DSP can't take all 21 of the final round ladies on as apprentice designers but I have a feeling that it is going to be VERY hard for them to choose!

Anyway, once again, we were given a color pallette and the assignment was to create a trendy kit. Then we were to create an element pack to go along with the kit. Here is my entry! We will find out sometime after the 16th whether or not we have been chosen to go forward. In the meantime, I am on pins and needles!

I just realized that my bestest friend has a kit NAMED the same! Well, Kimmie, I promise it was not intentional that I named this kit the same as yours! Actually, "Oh My Stars" is the first thing that came out of my mouth when I saw the assignment...so...that's what it turned out to be!

Round 4 Continued!

The second part of round 4 was to create a heritage kit with specific colors. Once we had the main kit complete, then we were to create an Add-On pack for that kit. Here is what I created!

I made it past the eliminations and I am on to round 4! This layout is for the first part of the round. I used the kit "Willow" that I created in round 2 and 3 with this wonderful photo of my hubby from Christmas 2007. I love that the blue in the kit brings out the blue in his eyes. It was the perfect photos for this layout.

I have to stop and give kudos to everyone that entered the contest. Some of the gals that did not make it to round 4 really did an excellent job with what they created and I was surprised that a few of them were eliminated. Heh! I'm a little surprised that I made it to round 4!

Next, I create a HERITAGE kit. Didn't I hear somewhere that heritage is anything older than 20 years? It's kind of hard to believe that the 70's and 80's are considered heritage!! Hmmm...but that does give one some food for thought! Actually, I guess if you could consider Willow a nice heritage kit as well.

Well, I am open to suggestions. Heritage is NOT one of my strong points when it comes to creating a kit and this round MIGHT have eliminations. Guess I better get cracking! Deadline is December 4th and Thanksgiving is coming up. Do you really think it is going to take me two weeks to come up with a heritage kit? Well......maybe!!

A Pretty Poinsetta!

I stumbled across a photo of a beautiful poinsetta this morning and decided while I was waiting to get the next assignment, I would try my hand at making one. I made one several years ago while messing around with the SNL at DSP, but it had many imperfections. This one does too, but even if I do say so myself, looks pretty darn good!

Part B of Round 2 is to make 4 papers...with a specific color scheme. That's not hard to do but my brain is in overdrive! Do I make girl papers or boy papers? Do I keep it neutral or really go with a strong theme? Well, I don't know whats next on the agenda so I decided to trash the theme and just make 4 papers with the colors that go together and could be used for either boy or girl or whatever! So....Here it is...4 Background papers...coming up!

I am not sure what comes next at this point, but I do know that the next round is an elimination round and that has me a little shaky! But, onward I go and whatever happens is what is meant to be!

Desinger Finder Contest - Round 2!

WOW! The talent in this competition is AWESOME! I don't know how the judges are going to ever make a decision on who stays and who goes!

Ok, so here we are at Round two - PART A. Create a layout with the kit you just made. Well, that's not hard at all...lets just hope that I have made my kit in such a way that everything goes with everything else and is actually a usable kit. I mean, the kit isn't any good if you can't make a layout with it! Right?

This child is one of the most precious people that God could have given to me. She is my everyday SUNSHINE! The Journaling on this layout is oh so true....she is not just my guardian of confidences, she is my guardian angel as well. I would like to think that I might be hers too!

Ok...Here's the scoop! When I first started digital scrapbooking, there were two sites that taught me everything that I know and these are the two sites that are nearest and dearest to my heart today, 3Scrapateers and Digital Scrapbook Place.

Well, can you believe my surprise when I found out that DSP was having the first ever Designer Finder Contest! WOW! There was no way that I could pass up this opportunity to see if I could actually design beside some of the most elite designers in the industry! So, here I am, pulling my hair out!! LOL!! Well, it's not quite that bad...yet!

Round one... Create a kit....OK, simple enough! Create a kit without using actions and CU items of anykind.....HEH...not so simple! But here it is!

Season of Change

Everything changes and, my friends, I have come to a point where lots of things are changing for me. I will no longer be designing at 3Scrapateers. This change became effective on Saturday, November 8, 2008. There are allot of things that brought about this change but mainly, I decided that it was time for me to move on.

I have signed on to Design for "Scraphead" and will have my store open there in the very near future. You are all invited to meet with me on the boards there, if you so desire, at www.scraphead.com . I am excited to continue to work with Michelle Powell, Sandra Covert, and Rachael Bullion and am looking forward to getting to know all of the other wonderful Designers that create for Scraphead. Well, my friends, apparently something big is in the making over at 3S and the site, which was scheduled to close on October 31st, is NOT closing at all! What's going on? Well, right now it is anybody's guess but it's gonna be BIG!!!
